I like to listen to people too. I don't like reading books. I figure, if no-one can be bothered telling something to me, it's either not that interesting, not that convincing, not that relevant to my life, or just generally not worth talking about. In which case I would prefer not to waste my time reading it! :D

Flawless logic to defend my laziness, I think you'll agree!

Great point. I'll have to think about that one...
Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Examine yourselves. Or do you not recognize for yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless you fail the test. (2 Corinthians 13:5 HCSB)

But you've basically nailed it for me... "I like to listen to people".

I find essays and exams offensive. I learn because I like to listen to people. I like to listen to people in books, I like to listen to people in conversation. I want to be shaped by those conversations. The mindset where I have to remember every last detail, so that I can use them as a weapon, as a fortress of logical argument is counter-productive to me. Will an exam or an essay ever say 'It's freakin complex and not entirely coherent' ? Probably not. Yet, that is how most things are.
Then again, your many years of trials have made i much easier for you to communicate this over the inter-webs.
